Everything came to a head around the time I turned 40.
On the surface, everything was great. My little family was growing. My corporate job in Brussels was ticking along nicely. We'd just moved back to the UK to be closer to family. And then anxiety hit me unlike anything I'd ever experienced before.
I started having frightening painful palpitations to the point that I thought I was having a heart attack. I felt dizzy when I was out and about and worried about passing out in the school playground or in the supermarket. I was overwhelmed by my situation and didn't see a way out of it. I spent hours trawling the internet for answers during the night when everyone else was asleep. I felt completely alone.
I remember saying to my husband that I felt like I'd just woken up. Everything had changed. I no longer felt comfortable with the old way of doing things. I started to question what I was doing and why. My perspective had shifted.
And even though it felt like I'd reached rock bottom and was bouncing along scraping past every rock and stone, there was still a light on inside. A fighting spirit that kept me going. I knew I was in Position B and had to find a way back to Position A. In fact, I left Position B behind, sidestepped A, and ended up at C in a new and far more fulfilling, grounded and happy phase of life.
Looking back, it was a journey of discovery. A rebirth from the life I'd known into a new life that is still mine to create. The tools of my recovery now form the basis of my work as a Women's Therapist with a 100% successful outcome. Anxiety-busting during the perimenopause phase has become a speciality and it's a privilege to share these techniques to help other women.
Menopause is so much more than hormones, and with the right support you too can break free to flourish and thrive in this powerful phase of life.
